Workshy Brits could lose benefits after 12 months as Rishi Sunak warns 'life worries' are not a reason to dodge jobs - suggesting specialist teams NOT GPs should decide if people are signed off sick

In a major speech drawing dividing lines for the election, Rishi Sunak pledged to crack down on the country's 'sick note culture', insisting normal 'life worries' are not a reason to be signed off. He highlighted that 850,000 more are long-term sick than before the pandemic, with the largest increase among young people. Mr Sunak suggested that in future specialist teams should assess what work people can do, instead of GPs who might be less willing to take a tough stance. Laying out a key pledge for the Tory manifesto, the premier said that in future anyone who was deemed fit for a job would be stripped of benefits after 12 months, unless they complied with conditions set by their work coach. Mr Sunak stressed he did not want to make the system less generous for those who genuinely needed support, but would not 'let down' Brits by refusing to tackle the issue for fear of 'causing offence'.

EXCLUSIVEFrom a miserly 'matchbox' of cheese to a strict limit of just one slice of toast a day, we reveal the shockingly small portion sizes recommended by UK diet chiefs. So how do YOUR meals measure up?

Serving suggestions say we should be cooking just 75g of pasta, which is two to three tablespoons. It's the same for rice, with just two to three tablespoons being a recommended portion which is about 50g. The portions look on the small side for Brits favourite cheese cheddar, an actual portion is about 30g - the equivalent of a matchbox-sized block of cheddar. To put these recommended servings to the test MailOnline compared the plate of food we would want to eat to the British Dietetic Association's (BDA) recommended portion sizes - the difference was shocking.

'People are calling me a sex pervert': Spectator writer who said Cambridge lecturer was so

A theatre writer who was condemned online after claiming a lecture by a female academic inspired a sleazy trip to a message parlour has defiantly told his critics to 'get out the basement and get a bit of action'. Lloyd Evans (inset) sparked outrage when he revealed in The Spectator he visited a Chinese prostitute after becoming distracted by the appearance of political theory expert Lea Ypi (left and right) at a talk in Cambridge. The 61-year-old claimed he had lost control of his 'lunatic libido' after seeing the London School of Economics professor's 'blonde hair spilling over her shoulders', before going on to sleep with a Chinese prostitute. The article sparked an angry response from the Albanian-born professor, as well as others on social media who called it 'horrific', 'crude' and 'appalling'. However, Evans has hit back at his critics, saying he has been branded a 'sex pervert' by complete strangers and insisted they should 'get out of the basement and get a bit of action, even if you have to pay for it'.
