Instructor
Professor Miriam Leonard
This survey course builds on the first year courses Interpreting Latin Literature and Interpreting Greek Literature and is designed to provide a general critical background to the author- and theme-based literature courses taught both in the original language and in translation. The course will analyse ways in which a range of modern critical techniques (including reception theory, feminist criticism, structuralism, postcolonialism) can enhance our reading of Greek and Latin texts.
Assessment
You will be assessed on one piece of coursework (2,500 words) (40%) and one three-hour examination paper (60%).
Coursework requirements
Attendance at weekly lectures; preparation, presentation and discussion of selected texts in translation; and submission of the assessed coursework essay.
